This piece was a an experimentation with distortion and mixing multiple mediums. During art one we learned how to make a grid, and copy an original image over and scale it up or down. But now, we are experimenting with distortion. This is when one of the dimensions of the grid is normal, and the other is multiplied by two. This makes your grid into elongated rectangles. With this in mind, we had to chose an image to elongate. I picked this picture of my dog laying down (being cute). My dog already looked elongated in this photo by how shoes laying down, and I wanted to use this technique to exaggerate how long she looks. I picked an analogous color scheme with purples, blues, and greens. I abstracted the background with large simple shapes to simplify and make it easier to understand. I also wanted the center object (my dog) to stand out and be the main detail. I painted this piece with acrylic paint on multi media paper. After the paint dried, I used prisma color pencils to add in detail and direction to the fur, whiskers, nose, eyes, and paws. I also added vertical lines where the "floor" would be to really emphasize the elongation horizontal wise and make it look really really distored. Overall i am very happy with this piece.
