For my birthday this year, I was given high end alcohol based markers. Up until then, I had used exclusively colored and graphite pencils. I wanted to experiment with these bright markers as I heard they where great for layering and blending. I wanted to push these markers and how they layer, so I experimented with a flannel top with lots of stripes. I colored a layer of dark red, and went over it with different reds and browns to made a natural overlapping plaid flannel. I love how natural the layering turned out. I colored each part as one base color, and picked another darker color for shadows and details. The way these markers mix and blend to seem cohesive is new and interesting. I wanted to layer a color outside of shadowing and detail, so i used a light pink on top of the peach tone for a blushed look. I love how this turned out and look forward to experimenting more with them.
