In my piece I wanted to experiment with an acrylic pouring technique. I decided on a “Dutch pour” and used a hairdryer to manipulate the paint on canvas. I wanted this pour to represent how mental illness like depression was endured before experiencing medication. With this in mind, I went with a analogous color scheme and mixed different shades of blue and violet for a larger but still cohesive range. I added gold paint as a contrast from the darker colors to represent hope. After the pour and manipulation was done it was organic, flowy, and dark but it still needed the anger and chaos the mental illness craves. I decided to splatter the cup with leftover paint aggressively at the canvas. This added the emphasis and movement needed in the piece. When the canvas dried the paint cracked because of the cold weather. The imperfections really make this piece akin to how i feel about my own depression and really enjoyed the overall outcome of it.
