My friend's parents had a finished outdoor shed. Her family painted it many years ago when she was small. Over the summer we spent lots of time together and her family had asked us if we could repaint the shed for them. We where excited to work on such a large scale piece of art together as neither of us had done so before. We started by asking what ideas she had in mind, what colors she wanted, and when it needed to be done by. After brainstorming, We came up with ideas of plants as the shed was located right next to their garden. This would add to the natural enviorment and enhance the building. While thinking about plants, we thought about tomatoes, trees, bushes, rainbow flowers. But we settled on sunflowers as it was bright, and would add a pop of color to the blue background we settled on first. We asked if she wanted a lot of small ones, a few big ones, realistic, cartoony, ect. She let us have creative freedom on the composition so we created four large flower, two on each side of the window (two high and two low). We used bright ywlloe for the base of the flower, brwon for the center, and a mix of both to add shading to the petals and center. We used a dark green for the stem and leafs off the plant. This piece turned out amazing and it was such a unique experience painting outside on such a large scale.
