Fusion

Fusion combines the magnification features of ZoomText with the screen reading features of JAWS. It provides full customisation of its features, designed to suit the specific needs of the individual. Fusion is designed to work with both the mouse and keyboard shortcuts. Users can magnify their screen, invert their colours, customise the way their mouse pointer and cursor move and appear and get auditory feedback when the hover over words on their computer.

Fusion is available from https://www.freedomscientific.com/products/software/fusion/ and offers a free download. The download runs the full version of Fusion for 40 minutes before requiring a full restart of the computer.

Classroom Applications

Fusion can be used by a wide range of students:

    • Low vision students who need to magnify the entire screen

    • Students who need easier access to the mouse pointer and visual cursor - increasing the size or changing the colour of each

    • Students who would benefit from accessing audio feedback when hovering over text on screen

    • Students who are experiencing a vision deterioration and might need to learn JAWS in the future - Fusion can be a good transition from magnifier to screen reader.

Fusion can be used to enhance any and all uses of a computer, including but not limited to:

    • Internet use

    • Email

    • Word Processing

    • File management

    • Presentation creation

    • Spreadsheet

    • Image/video manipulation
