NVDA (Non-Visual Desktop Access) allows blind and vision impaired people to access and interact with the Windows operating system and many third party applications.
This screen reading software is free to download and use.
Anywhere a sighted student is using a Windows based computer, a student who is blind can also use a Windows based computer with NVDA installed. For example: When tasked with internet research, a student who uses NVDA can receive feedback from the computer and complete the same research, provided the website is accessible. The student can read the information, select text of interest, copy that text and paste it into their word processor.
NVDA works well in the Windows environment, including accessing software, moving files and folders from the computer to a USB or SD Card, accessing content from cloud services and accessing the taskbar.
NVDA also works well with Microsoft Word, providing full navigation and feedback on written text, the style of the font, adding and navigating tables, etc.
