This year we will be holding our swimming pool sessions at New Parks leisure centre. We have a Sunday afternoon slot at 1:30 for 90 minutes.
19/10/25 - On the Sunday following the Wavehopper Championships (see below), we attended the Soar Valley Canoe Marathon competition at the Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre. John coordinated our attendance at the event. Jamie and Emma competed in K2, and John, James, Ava, Daniel, Bobby and Luke in K1. There were excellent performances all around, with James achieving promotion to Division 8 with a second place in Division 9. Ava was third in Division 9, and Daniel 9th. Daniel's placing was impacted somewhat by an early capsize! The Division 9 results were particularly impressive given that all were in wildwater, rather than marathon racing boats. In Division B (Under 14) Bobby was second, and in Division C (Under 12), Luke was also second. In Division 6, John was last. But at least he finished!
18/10/25 - Jamie led our team of Kerry, Emma, Adam, Pete, Samuel, Luke and Bronwyn at the Nene Whitewater Centre on Saturday. We were 2nd in the Club Championships, and 3rd in the Junior Wavehopper Championships. Individual highlights were Sam who was first under 12, and Adam, who was third under 16. Well done everybody!
05/10/25 - We had an excellent day's racing at Stone at the weekend. It was Leo and Poppy's first slalom competition, and both did remarkably well. Poppy was the fastest down the course in the Women's Division 4 K1 event, and was third overall after penalties. Sam had a very good day, with second place and a personal best in the Division 3 K1 event, and first place in the Division 4 C1 event with a time that would have given him third place in Division 3! Adam won the Men's Division 4 K1 event (last Division 4 race Adam!), and there were Junior prizes for James in Division 3 (5th overall) and Nathan in Division 4 (4th overall).
Missing from the photo: Pete and James. Not sure where they went! Thanks to Mark for the photo, Paul for towing the trailer, and Pete for providing support on the water.
21/09/25 - Harvey, Kieran, Sam, Harry, Allie and Leon-Paul travelled independently to this competition just North of Sheffield at the weekend. On the Saturday, Harvey and Kieran were 1st and 2nd in the Division 3 K1 Men's event, and both achieved the points required for promotion to Division 2. Harry was 4th, and won the Junior prize. Sam won the Div 4 C1 prize, with a time that was faster than the Division 3 winner! Leon-Paul got the Division 4 K1 Junior prize, and Allie the Women's Division 3 K1 Junior prize. Harvey, Kieran and Sam also won the Team competition. On the Sunday, Harry put in a season's best performance to achieve third place. So, medals all around! Very well done everybody! And thanks to Molly for the coaching.
Thanks to Pete Astles for the photographs
05/07/25 - The 2025 ICF Junior and under 23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships were held in Solkan, Slovenia on the Soča river from 1st to 5th July. Break Out Canoe Unit's Kerry and Emma Christie were competing on behalf of Great Britain and Harvey Reeves accompanied the British squad as a development paddler.
The Great Britain team delivered a strong performance, securing multiple podium finshes in both the classic and sprint formats.
Emma and Kerry capped a successful first day for the young British team by defending the U23 Women's C2 title they claimed two years ago. It was the second medal of the day for Kerry after she secured Silver in the U23 Women's K1 classic, being beaten narrowly by Italy's Cecilia Panato.
Kerry and Emma also helped the squad to a team medals in the K1 (Gold) and C1 (Silver).
In the sprint format they took Gold in C2 and another Silver in the C2 team competition.
