2019 News

10/11/2019 - Molly has been participating in the 'Slalom Inspires' initiative this summer - and has had a brilliant time at events at Holme Pierrepont and Lee Valley. Slalom Inspires is an not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers that is aiming to inspire and empower girls through the incredible sport of canoe slalom. By putting on fun events, creating opportunities for girls in the sport that they may not otherwise get, and equipping them with the skills necessary to gain confidence, it is hoped that the girls will be inspired to become the best possible versions of themselves.

04/11/2019 - Congratulations to Luke on his 'last roll of the dice' promotion to Division 1 of the Canoe Slalom league at Shepperton on 3rd November. After a couple of event cancellations due to the high water, Luke needed a top 10% finish at Shepperton in order to achieve his season's goal. A 4th place on the Saturday wasn't quite good enough, but on the Sunday a fast, solid run gave him 2nd place and promotion to Division 1. Well done Luke. Well deserved after a season of dedication and very hard work.

National Inter-Clubs Canoe Slalom Championships

08/09/2019 - We've done it again! For the second year running, Break Out Canoe Unit has won the Sportsmanship award at the National Canoe Slalom Inter-Club championships - as voted for by the other clubs.

Our A team was placed 6th overall, and our B team 10th. Our B team also won the trophy for the highest placed team having no Division 1 or Premier paddlers. This was our best-ever combined team result.

Individual prizes were awarded to the following:

  • Callum 3rd Division 1 Man
  • Molly 1st Division 2 Woman
  • Faith 3rd Division 3 Woman
  • Josh 1st under 14 in the Premier Division event
  • Elsa 1st under 12 in the in the Premier Division event
  • Jamie, Luke and Ethan 2nd in the V/2/3 team event
  • Emma, Lydia and Faith 3rd in the 1/2/3 team event

Our V/2/3 (Veteran, Division 2 and Division 3) team was beaten into second place by a team containing Olympic champion Etienne Stott. And they only lost out by a fraction of a second!

The Saturday evening entertainment saw us win more prizes including a considerable amount of chocolate! Emma and Lydia won prizes in the duck race for best dressed duck. Dan won the throw bag challenge (the foundation safety and rescue training certainly paid off!) and Break Out OAPs won the quiz.

Excellent performance from Leicestershire Scouts. Well done everybody.

And special thanks to all the non-competing parents who worked so hard throughout the weekend: Lisa, Helen, Julia, Sarah, Andy, Richard, Liz and Giles.

15/07/2019 - Congratulations to Molly on her promotion to Division 1 of the national Canoe Slalom league on Sunday at Bala Mill. The win was her third 1st place of the season, and seventh top 5 finish.

27/07/2019 - Jack Perchard and Aaron Kirk, Kerry and Emma were paddling at the Junior and Under-23 Wild Water Racing World Championships in Banja Luka in Croatia this week.

They competed in both Classic and Sprint events. Our best results were in the Classic, where Kerry and Emma came a very respectable 23rd and 26th in the Junior Women's K1 race, and Jack and Aaron came 10th in the Canoe Doubles. Well done everybody. An excellent experience!
