Jack Promoted to Division 1

19/10/14 - Congratulations to Jack Perchard on his 'last roll of the dice' promotion to Division 1 in the K1 class in Canoe Slalom, with a sixth place at Shepperton, and a superb demonstration of how to roll in whitewater!

Jack and Patrick Promoted to Prem in C2

25/08/14 - Congratulations to Jack Perchard and Patrick Marriott, who were promoted to the Premier Division in the C2 class at the weekend. A win at the Grandtully competition in Scotland on the Saturday secured the points needed for promotion to the top flight in canoe slalom.

Orton Mere Canoe Slalom

06/07/14 - Fourteen Explorers, Scouts and Cubs attended this competition near Peterborough at the weekend. It really was a very good couple of days, helped by the mainly dry and sunny weather. Thanks to Andrew Mackley for the excellent photographs. There are more on our Facebook site.

Congratulations to Aaron on his fifth place on the Sunday, and promotion to Division 2 of the National league. Also big 'well done' to our younger paddlers - Emma, Kerry, Ollie and Callum on braving the whitewater!

Successes at Stone

22/06/14 - On 22nd June we travelled to Stone in Staffordshire to compete at a beginners' canoe slalom competition. There were good performances all around, with Toby, Will and Rowena all gaining promotion to Division 3 in the K1 class.

In the Men's K1 class, Toby was second and Will third (from a field of 16). Rowena came second in the Women's K1 class. In Division 3 Aaron put in a storming second run, but didn't get the promotion points that he was hoping for after hitting two poles too many. And Katherine put in a respectable performance given that she'd not been in a boat for about six months!

As you may have noticed, Rowena's trophy unfortunately met with an accident on the way to the photo-shoot!

Introduction to Moving Water

08/06/14 - Twenty-four Scouts, Explorers and leaders attended this event on the River Trent. The water was surprisingly high, but we completed the journey with only a couple of capsizes. At lunchtime we met with some of the parents, and visited the ancient Anchor Church - small, slightly smelly caves carved from the river cliff.

Patrick Promoted to the Premier Division

01/06/14 - Congratulations to Patrick Marriott on his promotion to the Premier Division in the C1 class. After obtaining several good results at Shepperton, Holme Pierrepont and Grandtully, Patrick's two wins at the Tryweryn at the weekend secured his promotion from Division 1 to the Premier Division. He is now ranked 29th in the UK - one place behind ex-South Leicestershire Explorer Matt Cook.

Early Season Canoe Slalom Competitions

06/04/14 - Well, the season is now well underway, and there have already been several impressive results and performances. Jack and Patrick went to Shepperton, and Patrick came away with a win and a third place in the Division 1 C1 category. What a start to the season!

Our beginners competed at the first flat water competition of the season at Holme Pierrepont and did well, inspite of being up against the national talent squads. Dad Jamie Christie won the Men's DIvision 4 category and was promoted to Division 3 as a consequence - so they didn't have it all their own way!
