Canoe Slalom

18/10/22 - Congratulations to Molly Sandercock on her promotion to the Canoe Slalom Premier league. It came down to the last run of the last slalom competition of the season at the Tees Barrier, but Molly pulled it out of the bag with the fastest run down the course. There was just one touch between her and first place; however second place was enough to do it. Congratulations Molly - well deserved after all your hard work.

2022 Wildwater Racing European Championships

28/08/22 - Gold and Silver for Kerry Christie at  the Junior and U23 Wildwater European Championships!

An ecstatic Kerry was lost for words after claiming a superb kayak classic gold to become Great Britain's first ever U23 European Champion on day three of the Junior and U23 Wildwater European Championships in Banja Luka.  She also took a fantastic silver alongside sister Emma in the U23 women’s canoe doubles to cap a memorable Saturday.

The 19-year-old stormed to victory in Bosnia & Herzegovina, clocking 19:36.23 to finish more than six seconds ahead of Switzerland’s Hannah Müller, with Czech Republic’s Tereza Kneblova completing the podium. She then combined with Emma in the canoe doubles, finishing just under 14 seconds behind Italian pair Cecilia and Alice Panato in a time of 22:13.68.

“I just can’t believe it,” she said.  “It’s very pleasing. I’m very happy with how I did".

Christie went out first in the U23 women’s kayak classic race, meaning that there was an anxious wait to see if she would be knocked off the top spot; but no-one could match her time and deny her a brilliant gold in her debut season at this age-group level.

“I was nervous because I didn’t really have a clue where I was going to be,” she added. “I kept thinking they were going to go quicker and they never did. It’s my first season at U23s so I didn’t really know how I was going to place".

“I knew I would maybe be up there but didn’t know anything else.  It’s been a really good competition for me, the best I’ve ever done.  I’m a lot more confident now. I raced in Treignac and I lost all my confidence there and I think it’s definitely back now.”

For sister Emma, it was a hard-fought silver after an 11th-place finish in the junior women’s kayak race earlier in the day. She posted a time of 21:03.14 to finish just outside the top 10, with clubmate Molly Sandercock finishing  in13th place with a time of 21:09.17.

And despite ending the day with a medal in the U23 women’s canoe double classic, 18-year-old Emma believes there is still room for improvement.  “We had some dodgy lines in some places,” she said!
