Meet the Team
Break Out Canoe Unit is run by a team of volunteer members of the Scout Association. Our coaches and assistant coaches all hold recognised Paddle UK qualifications, and can demonstrate a wide range of experience and knowledge in both recreational and competitive canoeing.
Unit Manager & Head Coach - John Stoner
John is a Level 3 BCU coach and has been paddling for nearly fifty years (yes, he is that old). His main canoeing interest is canoe slalom and he dabbles in wildwater racing and canoe marathon. He has been competing on and off since 1978, and is just about hanging on in Division 2 of the national canoe slalom league. He has paddled in Scotland, California, The Alps, The Pyrenees and New Zealand. In his spare time John works as an IT project manager for AtkinsRealis Limited.

Carol has been finance coordinator since 2023
Equipment Coordinator - Paul Rose
Paul is equipment coordinator with responsibility for looking after our equipment and storage facilities.
Wild Water Racing Coach - Jamie Christie
Jamie has been active with Break Out Canoe Unit for more than ten years, and is a member of the British Wildwater Racing committee.
