Meet the Team
Break Out Canoe Unit is run by a team of volunteer members of the Scout Association. Our coaches and assistant coaches all hold recognised British Canoeing qualifications, and can demonstrate a wide range of experience and knowledge in both recreational and competitive canoeing.
Unit Manager & Head Coach - John Stoner
John is a Level 3 BCU coach and has been paddling for more than forty years. His main canoeing interest is canoe slalom - he has been competing on and off since 1978, and is just about hanging on in Division 2 of the national league. He has paddled in Scotland, California, The Alps, The Pyrenees and New Zealand. He is currently British Canoeing's representative for the East Midlands region, and a Scout county canoe assessor. In his spare time John works as an IT project manager for WS Atkins plc.

Johnathan is a Level 2 BCU coach specialising in open canoeing, bellboating and stand-up paddle boarding.
