We have been learning about God's promise to send a Savior and how God kept that promise through Jesus' family tree. Jesus' family tree includes Adam and Eve, Seth, Noah and Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, and Rahab.
Rahab married Salmon, and they had a son named Boaz. Boaz is part of Jesus' family tree, and that's who our story is about.
Naomi and Ruth were lost - they had been living outside of the land of God's people and had lost their husbands, so they had no one to take care of them or protect them. Boaz helped fix this problem. He fell in love with Ruth and married her. He redeemed her, or rescued her, back into a family.
God's promise to His people, all the way back to Adam and Eve,was to send a rescuer - a redeemer. This redeemer wouldn't just rescue one person, but He would rescue all people who believe in Him. This redeemer is Jesus! Jesus came to rescue people lost in sin. He came to fix all the things that sin broke. Jesus is our redeemer!
We can remember that God is faithful and keeps His promise to redeem lost people with this verse:
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love, with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations... - Deuteronomy 7:9
God loves His people and wants to rescue them. He promises to send a rescuer. Who was the rescuer?
Talk about who you remember that's part of Jesus' family tree. (Adam & Eve, Seth, Noah, Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Judah, Rahab & Salmon, Ruth & Boaz)
Pray and thank God for sending Jesus to redeem His people.
