God promised to rescue His people from sin, and he used messy people in Jesus' family line to be faithful to His promise.
God's kingdom has been divided, and His people were exiled, or sent away from their homes. After many years, God's people were able to return to their homes and were reminded of that God always keeps His promises.
Once they returned home, things weren't the same. They didn't have their own kingdom and other nations ruled over them. The people were waiting and it seemed like God was silent. For 400 years, no new messages were sent to God's people. That's a really long time! But God was still keeping His peomise. God was preparing the world for the promised Savior. Sometimes we don't see what God Is doing, but God Is always working. God always keeps His promises!
God use Mary and Joseph to keep His promise of a Savior. He came as a baby, but he fulfilled God's promise through his sinless life, death on the cross, and resurrection from the grave. His birth didn't rescue God's people - his life, death, and resurrection did.
Jesus came to save messy people. Jesus came to save sinners. All the people we have talked about were messy and sinful. And so are we! Sometimes we disobey, sometimes we're selfish, sometimes we don't tell the truth. But we can't save ourselves. We need a Savior. Jesus came to save messy people like us.
God always keeps His promises.
We are reminded of God's faithfulness with this verse:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
Lamentations 3:22-23
Repeat throughout the day or week: "God always keeps His promises!"
God's people had to wait a long time for the promised Savior. When is a time that you waited for a long time? How did that feel?
Pray and thank God for keeping his promise and sending Jesus to save us.
