God made a promise to Adam and Eve and continued through generations.

Jesus' family tree began with Adam and Eve, and continued with Seth, Noah and Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Judah. 

None of these families have been perfect, but God has been faithful and He keeps His promises. 

God's family started off small, but it grew in a huge family. But there was a problem. God's family wasn't free. They were living as slaves in Egypt. Even Judah's family! God's people were sad and wondered if God had forgotten about them. They cried out to Him for help.

One day, God spoke to a man named Moses and told him to go to Egypt to let God's people go. It was not easy, but eventually, God's people were free and they followed Moses, who obeyed what God was telling him to do, and they traveled on foot to a place called the Promised Land.

God's people complained a lot, but God always took care of them. God rescued His people from Egypt and He continued to keep His promise to send a Savior. All people are messy, including us, but God sent Jesus to rescue all people who choose to follow him.

This verse reminds us of God's faithfulness to rescue His people:

Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love, with those who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations... - Deuteronomy 7:9

We aren't adding a person to Jesus' family tree, but God used Moses to save His people, which included the family of Judah.
