A mixed raise is a supporting bid that shows length in partner's suit and constructive values. It's stronger than a preemptive raise and weaker than a limit raise.

Conditions:

• 9+ trump fit;

• 6-9 points;

• opponents showed at least 10 HCP.

Situations:

• LHO opens the bidding;

• partner makes an overcall 1♥ or 1♣;

• RHO bid bellow 2 in the opener suit;

• 3 in the opener suit with jump as a mixed raise to 3M.

General rules:

(1♦)-1♥-(P/1S/2C)-?

• 2♥ - single raise, 7-10 HCP, 3+ trumps;

• 3♥ - jump raise - preemptive, 3-7 HCP, 4+ trumps, no ace or king outside trumps;

• 4♥ - jump raise to game - usually 5+ trumps with distributional values and fewer than 9-10 points;

• 2♦ (or RHO suit) - cuebid, limit raise or better, 11+ HCP, 3+ trumps (recommended: the cheaper cuebid shows 3-card support and the higher cuebid promises 4+ card support);

• 3♦ - mixed raise, 7-10 HCP, 4+ trumps;

• jump to 4♣ or 4♦ - splinter.
