Ghestem is used after natural openings: 1♣, 1♦, 1♥ or 1♠  in the LHO position (or RHO position if the other players have passed).

Generally:

• 2NT : shows the two lowest-ranking unbid suits;

• 2♣/3♣ : shows the two highest-ranking unbid suits;

• cuebid : shows the top- and bottom-ranking unbid suits.
