Blame Game

Kanye West 2010

Blame Game samples "Avril 14th" by Aphex Twin which feels uplifting and beautiful while at the same time giving off a somber mood.  I feel this fits Blame Game perfectly as the theme of the song is a conflict between two partners in which they go back and forth blaming each other, feeling like the victor for one second, and then the culprit for the next. Further, the protagonist is conflicted on whether or not he still loves the partner, saying "I love you" on one line, and then "I hate you" on the next.

Genre: Hip Hop / Rap

Particular lyrics

Let's play the blame game, I love you more

Let's play the blame game for sure

Let's call out names, names, I hate you more

Let's call out names, names for sure

You weren't perfect, but you made life worth it

Stick around, some real feelings might surface

Why I chose this song for this week

Kanye's use of Irish artist Aphex Twin's song Avril 14th was the perfect sample for this song. The piano in the original song fluctuates between being uplifting and melancholic, which is similar to the way the protagonist feels towards their significant other which they are in a fight with.
