Fancy Clown

MF DOOM & Madlib 2004

On Fancy Clown MF DOOM sings from the perspective of his alter-ego, Viktor Vaughn, in which he lets his girlfriend know where she stands in his life after having been caught cheating with the masked villain (MF DOOM). I find this concept to be really unique as he has two of his personas interact with one another on a song. The sample used by rapper and producer Madlib speaks on similar issues in which ZZ Hill says to his girl, "You've been trippin' around uptown Wooin' some fancy clown". Madlib did an excellent job pushing the theme of the lyrics within the music.

Why I chose this song for this week

This song is the final product of two genius artists coming together and offering their own unique bits of magic. Madlib produced the track and did a wonderful job with the sample selections and mixing. MF DOOM then tells a unique story of Viktor Vaughn (Himself) catching his girlfriend cheating with MF DOOM (also himself).
