STEP UP

Who are we?

We are a club led by a group of dedicated students with a goal to share our love for STEM, inspired by the national organization Step Up 4 Women. Irrefutably, representation of women and minorities in STEM remains low, but we believe that in inspiring young women to pursue STEM, we can make a difference! We create and host fun events to encourage interest in elementary and middle school students, such as math and science competitions. Through our monthly meetings, we introduce opportunities in STEM for high school students as well as bring in professional guest speakers. If you like STEM, spending time with younger students, hearing from guest speakers , or just want to participate in a fun, educational, and rewarding activity, we hope that you will join us next year!

Club Events

Monthly Meetings

Each month, our club meets at lunch to discuss various topics including representation in STEM, introductions to science and math subjects, and fun and exciting opportunities in our community.

In January, several Amador guest speakers shared some advice on challenging STEM classes to guide course selection for underclassmen.

Girls' Mathletics

Girls' Mathletics is hosted annually, a math competition held for middle school girls to introduce competitive math and raise interest in STEM subjects. Among the challenging problems students are asked to solve, we also invite guest speakers to address their own experiences in the STEM field.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions, our event was held virtually this year

Nevertheless, we invited two amazing guest speakers and hosted a free-response math competition as well as a team and target round via online video calling services!
