HOSA stands for Health Occupations Students of America (Future Health Professionals). HOSA’s slogan “Future Health Professionals” provides an insight into what HOSA’s purpose is. HOSA is a community dedicated to providing young adults a glimpse into what the medical/ health care field looks like. Students that are interested in pursuing a career in medicine and enjoy science classes would be a great fit for HOSA. They would gain exposure to multiple medical professions through hands-on activities and group events. They would have the opportunity to delve deeper into their interests and understand what a medical professional does on a daily basis.
This year, we are planning to implement more medical-based events and workshops. We will be conducting guest speaker events, healthcare panels, mini- competitions like quiz bowls and games, as well as club bonding events to create a stronger sense of community. Our main competitions include mini-con and SLC (State Leadership Conference, located in Sacramento). The competition is designed to see how well a student can perform medical tasks under pressure. For these competitions, you are able to choose a certain category depending on which medical subject interests you. (Ex: Emergency Preparedness, Clinical Nursing). For each competition you will have to complete a written test and/or perform the skills you learned at the competition. This usually takes place towards the end of March.
