Next Episode: The Y1K Bug: February 21 - 22, 2026
While Lichos can be encountered throughout the vast expanse of the galaxy, they hold a precarious status as among the most endangered species in the universe. These sentient mushrooms, known as Lichophyta, exhibit surprising nimbleness despite their fungal nature. Characterized by pallid, leathery, soft skin and adorned with brightly colored mushroom caps that grow from their heads, Lichophyta present a captivating and otherworldly appearance.
As an adaptive spore-based species, the Lichophyta rely on their relatively long life spans to gradually spread across the universe, establishing colonies in the process. Some of these colonies have endured for generations, each functioning as a microcosm of unique ideals and culture shaped by the wisdom passed down through the ages. Even well-established Lichco colonies that maintain connections to their elders and past generations exhibit greatly varied values and personalities. In contrast, younger colonies tend to be more uniform, not yet having had the opportunity to diversify.
Interestingly, 'wild' Lichos who eschew colony life often meander aimlessly, showcasing a more blunt demeanor and a lack of understanding of societal cues. Similar to the fungal life with which they share a genetic connection, Lichos demonstrate incredible adaptability to their environment—both physically and mentally. These adaptable beings give rise to new strains or 'genotypes' of Licho idealists that branch off into developing colonies, perpetuating their influence among the stars and contributing to the ongoing narrative of the Lichophyta in the vast tapestry of the universe.
