Members of ACB who attended Mark Morette’s and Sarah McElfresh’s session on copyright at the 2025 convention were introduced to important concepts and information regarding copyright and licensing from the perspective of band directors. This session by Dr. Steven L. Rosenhaus, author of The Concert Composer’s Business Handbook, flips that perspective to that of the composer, or arranger, or publisher, with the intent to clarify the need for copyright and the protections it offers both music creators and the musicians who perform their works.
Steven L. Rosenhaus is a composer, arranger, conductor, lyricist, author, dramaturge, educator, and
performer. Dr. Rosenhaus taught composition at New York University for three decades and is still a guest conductor and clinician for groups at all levels. He has 250+ compositions and arrangements published and performed by the New York Philharmonic, the U.S. Navy Band, The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines Plymouth, the New Hudson Saxophone Quartet, and community and educational ensembles, and others. He is a dramaturge for Broadway and off-Broadway musicals, having consulted on some 30% of productions over the last two decades. Rosenhaus is the
author of The Concert Composer's Business Handbook and co-author with Allen Cohen of Writing Musical Theater.
