When you begin to study English for academic purposes, to live or work in a foreign country, it is worthwhile to PLAN your approach to preparing for challenge and stick to that plan.
In addition to the language system, READING, LISTENING, SPEAKING, and WRITING there are several supplementary skills that will help you succeed on the tests, on your academic studies, social life and work.Mastering these supporting skills will assist you empowering your communication.
It is important to make a distinction between vocabulary and lexis.Vocabulary is traditionally understood as a stock of individual words with fixed meanings.Lexis includes not only the single words but also the word combinations that we store in our mental lexicons.Readers need to know at least 90% of the words in a text to achieve comprehension so it is essential that language learning and teaching consider that learners must understand fro their linguistic experience and employing strategies to make sense of the passage accordingly to the purpose of reading or listening.One among the best ways to expand your vocabulary is to spend as much time as you can reading and listening to English. Podcasting can be a powerful tool to assist you on this target.
