Located at Waters Farm, the Iron Scout Cooking Contest was a contest between the patrols, in which the patrols competed to cook a better meal and dessert than the other. 4 of the cub scouts came, and there were guest judges, one of them being the First EVER Scoutmaster of Troop 131. Both patrols made some kind of pasta, and the winning patrol overall was the Rock Bottom patrol. Senator Ryan Fattman's cat joined us for a large portion of the outing, and to close it, we performed skits indoors, because of the fire risk.
I thought a great feature for the newsletter would be to interview the senior scouts in our Troop , to share their experiences in their scouting career. The first one in the series will be Ben Furno;
What rank are you currently?
life (pictures included here are of his Eagle project)
What was your favorite part of scouts? Why?
Teaching younger scouts
What was your favorite merit badge?
Small boat sailing
What would you like to tell the younger scouts of the troop
To follow the scout oath and law, and to try to apply it to their daily life.
What was the most challenging thing that you overcame as a scout?
Moving from Troop 66 in Thompson Ct to Troop 131
Ben Furno's Eagle Project was to clean up the garden next to St. Mark's Church, install a bench next to it, and put in better rocks around the edge. After we finished, there was chips and pizza!
For Veterans Day, we helped the Lions Club place the flags around the Sutton Common. There were a total of 100 flags. There were 87 flags around the gazebo, and 10 around the large flag pole. There were also 3 flags on one of the benches.
