This week, Amsden Klinghard did his eagle project and held a 5K race at Shaw Farm. Instead of paying to enter the race, participants donated a few products that would benefit a veteran's shelter in Worcester. Amsden raised over 2000 items for veterans with the assistance of the Dudley Gendron American Legion Post 414, and even though it was raining, everyone still enjoyed volunteering, running, and nobody quit!
On Saturday, the 25th, we did a Service Project to assist the Lions Club place the flags around the Sutton Common. There were a total of 100 flags, and we finished in less than a half hour! There were 87 flags around the gazebo, and 10 around the large flag pole. There were also 3 flags on one of the benches. We had to use a metal detector to find some of the holes to put the flags in, because they got covered in dirt over the past year.
On Memorial Day, the Troop participated in the parade. We walked from the center of town down to the school. We marched behind the band and carried both the American flag and the troop flag. We thought it would rain, so we did not use the big flag this time, but usually, both troops work together to carry a huge American flag down the street.
On Mother's Day, the troop participated in the Dudley Gendron's Mother's Day Breakfast and helped deliver food, replenish beverages, and clear plates. The event was designed to thank mothers, and we were there to show our appreciation for all mothers do. If you were curious, the menu consisted of most breakfast foods including bacon, sausage, eggs, bagels, and fruit cups.
