Thank you to everyone who participated in the Troop's first-aid kit fundraiser! You helped the Troop raise $1422.00, which will all go towards camping and other activities!
Some first aid kits are in, however, the scout kits, the ultimate survivor kits, and the pet first aid kits are back-ordered and will be shipped within a week.
At the beginning of the month, Ben started his Eagle Project. For his project, our Troop helped restore a historic trail at Waters Farm, which holds cultural significance as a site where Native Americans once worshipped. Our tasks included clearing overgrown brush from the trail, removing poison ivy from the surrounding trees (using gloves, of course! ), and clearing the overgrowth in the old quarry used in the construction of the barn.
This month, our Troop went whitewater rafting on the Deerfield River through Crab Apple Whitewater. The stretch of river we navigated featured class 1 through class 3 rapids. Whitewater rafting is an excellent exercise in trust, teamwork, and coordination among scouts. Everyone had a great time, and only 2 scouts fell off the boat! After completing our section of the river, we enjoyed a barbecue with plenty of food, such as burgers and chicken.
To conclude the month, Troop 131 helped Ryan with his Eagle project. Ryan's Eagle project involved cleaning out the blacksmith's shop located in the town center as it was no longer suitable for holding demonstrations. All of the metal had to be separated and categorized into bins for screws, hinges, bars, and rods, and there was a final bucket with additional parts.
This month, the Troop participated in the retiring of the flags on Flag Day. During this ceremony, there were veterans there, one who recited a speech before respectfully burning the flags. One of the flags there had 48 stars, meaning that it was printed before Hawaii and Alaska gained statehood. This flag was not burned, and was given back to the family who wanted it retired, as it was a rare flag.
