Our sustainability group aims to engage UTS students, staff, and parents into sustaining energy. We hope to encourage, as well as give reason to recycle, reuse, reduce, and repair within schools and homes as well as prioritize when and what to throw out.
Often times sustainable energy comes with a price. For example energy efficient lightbulbs and solar panels are expensive and require a lot of effort into implementing. However, there are simple ways to sustain energy that only require a little bit of thought and motivation such as creating your own circular economy.
Creating a more energy efficient environment and spreading awareness are the benefits our campaign provides towards the UTS community. By showing a connection between recycling & circular economy, with preserving energy we hope to encourage sustainable energy.
Join us in the change-making! Let's work together to support sustainable development in this area.
Spend some time recycling and reusing items that simply aren't being used around the house!
Throughout the entire day, try to dispose of all used items in the right bins!
Below is some information about how this problem is manifesting in world, and some real-world examples.
That's about 4 in 7 students who dispose of items in the wrong bin!
In 2020 alone, 102,160,000,000 kWh of energy could have been saved by recycling these 3 materials; Plastic, Aluminum, and Paper!
Recycling can conserve critical materials. Let’s take a look at a few examples:
Per 1 pound of paper recycled we save 2(kWh) (office paper), 27000 BTU
Per 1 pound of Aluminum recycled we save 7 (kWh), 76000 BTU
Per 1 pound of plastic recycled we save 2.8 (kWh), 49000 BTU
50″ LED Television: around 0.016 kWh per hour
