F2 Change-Makers: Vanessa, Jessica X, Simon and James Q
Help the UTS community change their habits through short term goals and slowly change their long term habits through that.
It is important because there are many habits that we know we can change but seems difficult. We want to show that there ARE ways to live a more sustainable life style without drastic changes.
Our campaign helps the UTS community try some easy short-term challenge. This allows them to slowly become more sustainable!
Friendly game of bingo to see what sustainable practices you implement in your life so far as well as challenging the UTS community to go above and beyond in sustainable change making :)
Below is some information about how this problem is manifesting in world, and some real-world examples.
The effects of pollution on our planet is devastating. Microplastics in our food, respiratory diseases, and extinction of species are just a few of the consequences. However there are many easy things that people can change in their life to help (that are also challenges in our game). For example, public transport, not wasting food, buying items and even just talking to others about it.
Many animals are mistreated especially in things like factory farms where people only want to buy the cheapest meat, thus giving the owners no incentive to keep the animals in more humane conditions. There are many dishes that can be eaten without meat (there are also products made of soy beans or vegetables that taste exactly like meat!)
Electricity is a valuable resource, and wasting electricity by leaving the lights on when nobody is in the room is very damaging, because the amount of electricity wasted adds up, and since the production of most of the electricity we use is from things like nuclear power plants, which can be very damaging to the environment, electricity management is very important.
