F2 Change-Makers: Emma S, Elias C, Albert P, Allison S
We plan to educate the UTS community about water sustainability and what they can do themselves.
This is important to us because we care about the water that the staff and student body are provided during a schoolday. We use it for the most mundane tasks every day but we don't think much about it, how lucky we are to have clean running water. Thats why we are here to change that :)
They'll feel good about helping the environment, it's one-sided self satisfaction.
Join us in the change-making! Let's work together to support sustainable development in this area.
A week where we send out emails with different water-related puns, facts and tips.
Below is some information about how this problem is manifesting in world, and some real-world examples.
Every day, 2 million tons of sewage, industrial, and agricultural waste is released into water all around the world. This is the equivalent of the weight of 6.8 billion people.
Water pollution caused 1.8 million deaths in 2015, according to a study published in The Lancet.
More than 580 billion liters of drinking water, the equivalent of 236,000 Olympic swimming pools, are being wasted every year by homeowners in the Great Lakes region of Ontario and Quebec, according to a report released today by Environmental Defence.
