Capable of chewing with lips closed²⁹

Approximately 15 teeth present¹⁰

Eats coarsely chopped table foods, most meats, and raw vegetables²⁹

Use mature sucking pattern and have necessary jaw stabilization for cup drinking (by 24 months)²⁹

Swallows solid food with easy lip closure and loses little food or saliva while chewing or swallowing ²⁹

By 24 months, can usually transfer food successfully from one side of the mouth to the other (depends on consistency of food)⁵⁵
