Emanuel Valdez Soriano (1936–2023) served as President of the University of the Philippines from 1979 to 1981. He is a mechanical engineer and management scholar, all while holding degrees from UP and a Doctor of Business Administration from Harvard Business School. Beyond academia, Soriano became a prominent opposition leader during the Marcos regime, notably helping form the Convenors Group that played a crucial role in selecting Cory Aquino as the unified opposition candidate for the 1986 Snap Elections.
