I recognize that for many students their academic studies are just one part of a multitude of obligations that they might have. Students may have parenting obligations, caretaking responsibilities, work full-time or cope with their own illness or struggles. Optimal learning takes place when we are able to focus on our learning. If deadlines occur when students are attending to other duties, learning is impeded. It is my belief that students benefit from having control over their studies as much as possible. As such, I do not adhere to a strict policy that penalizes lateness. Due dates posted are suggested dates designed to keep students on track and maximize their learning based on the schedule of synchronous lectures. If problems arise, students are encouraged to complete the work as soon as possible to try and stay on track in keeping with what makes sense for them in maximizing their own learning process. For record keeping purposes, work not completed by the suggested due date will receive a 0 but that 0 can be changed by completing the work. My main aim is to teach you to be good interviewers. Individual paths toward that goal may vary. With that in mind, please be respectful of others and try your best to keep up. Synchronous class attendance is most optimal and recommended when at all feasible. Please seek out support from others if you fall behind. The Academic Success Center link, the Writing Center link, the Counseling Center link, Instructor and TA Office Hours are all available to help support your learning. You have a responsibility to yourself and others to avail yourself of these services.
