Many members of our faculty and staff can help you when you are facing a challenge during your time as a TA.
The instructor of the class might be a first resource to ask, since they generally have a lot of experience teaching the course content.
Nandini Bhattacharya is a senior lecturer in Math and also works with the TLC as an Associate Director of Teaching & Learning.
Drop by McHenry 4151 to Chat About Teaching with Franklin Yu, our new staff member who has a wealth of expertise in teaching mathematics and working with graduate students. Franklin hosts drop-ins during the fall quarter on Tuesdays 11-1 and invites all Teaching Assistants and GSIs to come ask questions, brainstorm teaching ideas, and troubleshoot challenges.
Questions you might ask include
"How do I deal with this kind of student?"
"How do I get my students to work together?"
"I have an idea for how to run this session, and I would like to run it by someone..."
"How do I cover all this in 50 minutes?!"
If you are a first-year student enrolled in MATH 288A or involved in the Peer Mentor program, you can ask your instructor and peer mentors who have a wealth of teaching experience to draw on.
