How to appoint or reappoint:
Complete a Without Salary Appt/Reappt PARF
You will receive an automated email once you complete the form. Forward the email to the Department Manager and state "I approve" in your reply. Attach the candidate's CV to the email.
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE/FELLOW
Used for longer/ongoing affiliations or for those who are not truly visiting. For shorter appointments, see Visiting Scholars. A research associate is a non-salaried appointment intended to provide for visiting scholars and scientists of distinguished standing who may
be recommended by departments and organized research units for such association with the university. Appointments to this title are for a specified term not to exceed three years. There is no maximum number of years of service in this title.
VISITING SCHOLARS
Used for shorter visits (each appointment period can be made for a maximum of 1 year; there is no limit on reappointments if visit is extended). For long-term affiliations, see Research Associate/Fellow. Visiting Scholars are individuals on leave from an academic
appointment or student enrollment at a home institution. They come to participate in a short-term educational, research, or other academic project under the supervision of an academic appointee. Shall be designated, as appropriate, as a Visiting Scholar, Visitor
(Graduate Student), or Visitor (Undergraduate).
VISITING_______ (Specialist, Project Scientist, Researcher)
Should only be used when the visitor will receive pay—there is a 2-year limit on consecutive service in these titles. If no pay, please use Visiting Scholar or Research Associate/Fellow. The Visiting prefix is used to designate one who: is appointed temporarily to perform the duties of the title to which the prefix is attached; and is on leave from an academic or research position at another educational institution. The criteria for evaluation of a candidate for appointment with a Visiting title shall be the same as for the corresponding regular title.
JUNIOR SPECIALIST WOS
Should only be used for recent UCSC graduates who qualify
