Instructional Settings

Instructional settings must be checked prior to each reporting period to ensure that they are correct (October, February, and June).

Children ages 0 through 2

For children ages 0 through 2, the only codes that can used are #31 (Home), #38 (Other setting) , and #41 (Community based) regardless of their placement (i.e. Early On, ECSE, Part B Itinerant services).

Children ages 3 through 5

Instructional settings for students ages 3 through 5 are determined using the Michigan Decision Tree for Coding Educational Environments. These instructional settings include A1-D2. These codes are used for children in Kindergarten who have not turned 6. Upon a child turning 6, the instructional setting should be changed to Automatically calculated. Please note that the state is advocating that special education services be provided within the general education classroom in conjunction with the general ed teacher and student's classmates.
