Dr. Shafiq Qaadri is a multilingual Toronto family physician, Continuing Medical Education (CME) lecturer, medical writer, and broadcaster. He has logged more than 1,000 radio, television shows, and podcasts across Canada.
An eloquent teacher, he is a leader in making health information understandable to the public and physicians alike. He has published more than 700 articles on a wide range of health topics. He has presented 290 lectures globally – with venues ranging from Casablanca, Cancun, Rabat, Vienna, Princeton, Hartford, Miami, Orlando, Jeddah, Banff, Montreal, Halifax, Victoria, Islamabad, and Sydney/Australia. He has presented for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Ontario Lung Association, and industry.
His non-fiction includes a health manual for baby-boomer men, The Testosterone Factor: A Practical Guide to Vitality and Virility, Naturally (Random House), which is now available in five countries in English, French, Russian, and Mandarin.
A long-time advocate for healthcare and a just society, Dr. Qaadri was elected to the Government of Ontario as the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Etobicoke North in October 2003. He was re-elected in October 2007; re-elected for a third term, October 2011; and re-elected to a fourth term, June 2014, serving until June 7, 2018. He served as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice Policy, as well as Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier of Ontario.
Educated at Upper Canada College, he holds an Honours BA Specialist in English Literature, a Fellowship in Global Journalism, and an MD from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1988. During his career, he won numerous awards and scholarships, including a Canadian National Debating Championship, an English-Speaking Union Essay Prize to Oxford University, a Medical Research Council Scholarship in Clinical Neurosurgery, a Senator Thompson Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, a full-ride Graduate Scholarship for an MA in Literature at Toronto Metropolitan University, and induction into the Canadian Healthcare Marketing Hall of Fame 2025.
