The Toronto Metropolitan University School of Medicine (TMU SoM) values Scholarship, Research, Creative Activity and Innovation (SRCI). SRCI plays an essential role for all members of TMU’s SoM - from learners to faculty (clinical and non-clinical). While traditional research is important, innovative and impactful, the SoM SRCI follows Boyer’s expanded definitions of scholarship expanding beyond traditional research areas and includes the scholarship of teaching (Boyer, From Scholarship Reconsidered to Scholarship Assessed).
Areas included in SRCI include: Clinical Service Scholarship, Teaching & Educational Scholarship (scholarship extends beyond the role of clinical teaching), Service & Leadership (Academic or Community) Scholarship.
Currently there are two research labs established within the SoM: SoLAR Lab and the Healthcare Leadership Lab. These two labs serve as the nascent for the development of future labs and research centres within the School of Medicine.
