Dr. Brent Thoma is a Clinical Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University. His academic focus is medical education, with particular emphasis on research and leadership.
Dr. Thoma’s research investigates the integration of technology in medical education, including simulation, online resources, and learning analytics. He has authored over 140 peer-reviewed publications and secured >$800,000 in grant funding. In 2023, he earned a PhD with a thesis exploring how competency-based assessment data can be leveraged to enhance medical education.
Recent leadership roles include work as a Clinician Educator with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, a Council Member with the Medical Council of Canada, and the Interim Associate Dean of Postgraduate Medical Education at Toronto Metropolitan University. In the latter position, he led the development and accreditation of 16 residency programs and Canada's first new postgraduate medical education office in over 15 years.
