Kindergarten

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 Kindergarten Website

You will be able to find a recap of what we learned the previous week, homework assignments, and resources for parents such as the school calendar and handbook.

Thank you to all our Kindergarten families for connecting to ClassDojo!

If you haven't checked out the class' page yet, it is a great place to see daily pictures and updates. You are also able to comment on pictures and send messages to me in the app.

From the student view, your child can change how their monster looks, practice typing, draw digital images, and submit photos to me.

Please keep in mind you do not have to opt into the paid portion of ClassDojo to do any of the things required for class.

Recap of January 18th - January 21st

Bible Study - We read the story of Jesus calling his disciples from Matthew 4:18-22; 10:2-4. We learned Jesus told Peter, Andrew, James, and John to catch men instead of fish. In total, Jesus called twelve men to follow after Him and learn from Him. God calls His people to be HIs helpers, share His love and to tell others about Jesus! Our Bible Words for the week were:

"Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Matthew 4:19

ELA - We have been working on our phonics skills - associating letters with their sounds and blending sounds together to hear a new word. We are also really focusing on our penmanship. Students practiced letters y and x and their sounds /y/ and /ks/ . We reviewed the letter a and /a/ like in cat ,m, /m/ t, /t/, d, /d/, / o, /o/ like in ox, c, /k/, i, and /i/ like in igloo, g /g/, n, /n/, h, /h/ , f, /f/, s, /s/, v, /v/, z, /z/, letter u and the /u/ as in under, letter r and /r/. e and /e/ like in ten, j , /j/, lettter w, and /w/. Students wrote the letters, listened for their sounds, stretched and blended words that contain these letter sounds and use a chaining chart to create words with the letter sounds they know.

Students are focusing on isolating and identifying different sounds, pencil strokes that will help with handwriting, and practicing positional words like in front of, on top of, below, left, right, and behind.

Math - We began our unit on money. Students learned about the dime. How to identify the heads and tails sides, how much it is worth, how to count to find out how much you have, and the meaning on the decorations on both sides of the coin.

Social Studies - We continued our unit on United States Presidents and American Symbols. We talked about the Liberty Bell and Abraham Lincoln.
