Kindergarten

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 Kindergarten Website

You will be able to find a recap of what we learned the previous week, homework assignments, and resources for parents such as the school calendar and handbook.

Thank you to all our Kindergarten families for connecting to ClassDojo!

If you haven't checked out the class' page yet, it is a great place to see daily pictures and updates. You are also able to comment on pictures and send messages to me in the app.

From the student view, your child can change how their monster looks, practice typing, draw digital images, and submit photos to me.

Please keep in mind you do not have to opt into the paid portion of ClassDojo to do any of the things required for class.

Recap of the week of August 23rd - August 27th

Bible Study - We read Genesis 6:9 - 9:17 and learned about the story of Noah and the Ark. Because of God's disobedience, God destroyed the world with a great flood; in His mercy, God saved Noah's family and an ark full of animals. God gave humankind a second chance. God is merciful and forgiving to His faithful children.

ELA/Skills - Students are focusing on isolating and identifying different sounds, pencil strokes that will help with handwriting, and practicing positional words like in front of, on top of, below, left, right, and behind.

Students reviewed horizontal, vertical, diagonal, cup shaped, hump shaped, and curved lines as well as learning about zig zag and wavy shaped lines. They also worked on making sure that they are gripping their pencil/crayons properly with a tripod grip. It was great to see the students really focusing on how they hold a pencil and trying their best to work as neatly as they could.

Math - Students have been working on calendar skills (month, year, days of the week, date, graphing daily weather, counting the days of school on a 100s chart and with tally marks). They have also worked with patterns. Not only identifying a pattern but also sharing what will come next in the pattern. We have been working on our number writing skills as once these are mastered we will be able to better complete math activities through out the school year. We reviewed numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 during the week as well as learning 9 and 10.

Science - We are exploring our 5 senses! Students reviewed their senses of sight, hearing, smell, and taste this week as well as learning about some special people who did remarkable things despite not having the use of some of their senses. Students learned about Ray Charles who went blind at the age of 7 and Helen Keller who lost both her eyesight and hearing as a small baby.

*Students have also been working on different skills such as cutting, gluing, and the importance following directions. Students also had the opportunity to do some digital work on the iPads. If you haven't already, check out their work in their portfolio on ClassDojo.
