Kindergarten

Welcome to the 2021 - 2022 Kindergarten Website

You will be able to find a recap of what we learned the previous week, homework assignments, and resources for parents such as the school calendar and handbook.

Thank you to all our Kindergarten families for connecting to ClassDojo!

If you haven't checked out the class' page yet, it is a great place to see daily pictures and updates. You are also able to comment on pictures and send messages to me in the app.

From the student view, your child can change how their monster looks, practice typing, draw digital images, and submit photos to me.

Please keep in mind you do not have to opt into the paid portion of ClassDojo to do any of the things required for class.

Recap of April 19th - April 22nd

Bible Study - We learned about the stories of Jesus being crucified and rising from the dead.

Jesus willingly suffered and died on the cross for us so that our sins would be taken away. Jesus told the criminal who believed that he would be with Jesus in paradise. Jesus' death is the punishment for our sins; He takes our sins away so we don't have to be punished.

Jesus came alive on Easter. We can be sure that we will live again too.

ELA - We continued practicing "letter teams". These "teams" are when two certain letters are next to each other they make a completely new sound. For example, last week we worked on the "th" team and talked about how it makes the /th/ sound like in math but also the /th/ sound like in this. This week we worked on "ch" and how it makes the /ch/ sound like in chair and the team "sh" that makes the /sh/ sound like in ship.

We also practiced how there are double letters in a word but we only have to say the letter sound once. For example: shell has double l at the end

We also continued practicing tricky words. These are words that cannot be sounded out or blended. We talked about how these are words that we have to be able to just look at and read. The words we focused on previously were: the, a, of, all, one, from, was. This week we added word, when to our tricky words.

Math -Students began working on subtraction. We talked about how when writing a number sentence we write a minus sign and an equals sign. Students worked on using cubes and a tens frame to help solve subtraction sentences.

Core Knowledge - We have started learning about plants, their different parts, and how they grow. We also heard some more from our pen pal Annie about the seasons and weather.

On Friday we planted 3 different types of seeds and are excited to see what they grow into!

Extra Activities- We celebrated Earth Day by painting artwork on newspaper to reuse and recycle it.

We also tie-dyed t-shirts for our May Day performance.
