Recap of February 14th - February 18th

Bible Study - Since it was valentines week, we focused on Jesus' love for us.

ELA - We continued working with words that have consonant blends at the beginning of the word. For example, words that start with sl-, fl-, or tr. Students also learned that s can sometimes make the z sound when it is at the end of the word like in his and has. We talked about an apostrophe and how when there is an apostrophe s in a word it can mean that the "thing" that they are talking about is owned by that person.

We have begun reading through stories in our classroom reader book titled "Kit" these are stories that practice grammar, punctuation, and the phonics skills that we have been working on.

Math -Students worked with non-standard measurement. We worked to measure various things around the classroom to see how many cubes or paper clips long they were.

Core Knowledge - We continued unit on Nursery Rhymes and Fables. Students learned the nursery rhymes: "Jack Be Nimble", "Little Jack Horner", and "Jack and Jill". Students are working to retell "Jack and Jill" with picture cards they created. Students learned that nursery rhymes and poems usually have rhyming words in them and we can tell a word is rhyming when it has the same ending sounds as a word.
