Computing at Western House Academy aims to equip pupils to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change the world. It is a valued and popular subject and forges especially deep links with Mathematics, Science, DT as well as supporting, reinforcing and enhancing all other subject areas. Pupils use various programs on a variety of devices, design, write, compose and create their own programs & games, solve problems, use physical computing, communicate, collaborate and become better digital citizens.
All children (R to Y6) receive timetabled lessons based on NC objectives. Lessons take place in the Computing Suite where each child uses a networked desktop computer or in the classroom using chromebooks. Other lessons utilise equipment such as cameras and take place outdoors or in other areas of the school. Some lessons use the Now Press Play resource. Nursery use equipment and explore computational thinking through experience and play.
