Welcome to the Cooperative Education program! We are thrilled to partner with you to provide our students with valuable real-world experience. To ensure a smooth and successful placement for both you and your student, please review the following steps and administrative requirements
Before the placement officially begins, we follow a multi-step integration process which generally follows this order:
Safety Assessment: A Co-Op teacher will meet with you in person at your place of business to conduct a standardized safety assessment of the work environment. This meeting takes about 20 minutes and is required EACH time a new student is placed. The teacher will ask for a tour of the facility, any hazards and safety equipment. A completed copy of this assessment is usually sent to supervisors for signature via AdobeSign.
The Interview: You will meet with your prospective Co-Op student for a formal interview to ensure they are the right fit for your team.
Start Date Scheduling: If you choose to offer a position, you may coordinate with your student to pick a start date for the student to receive their orientation to your workplace.
The WEA Form: If you choose to offer a position, the Co-Op teacher will draft the Work Education Agreement (WEA).
Purpose: This contract ensures WSIB coverage is in place for the student.
Action: Watch your email for a message from sender ‘ccel’. This document can be signed digitally for your convenience.
Driving: If the student will be in a company vehicle at any time, the Co-Op teacher will ask the supervisor to fill out a Driver Form.
Orientation: Please provide your student with any site-specific training and an orientation to washrooms, fire exits, emergency procedures, first aid kits and office policies on or before their first shift.
Teacher Initial Visit: Within the first few weeks of placement, the teacher will drop in to ensure that the placement continues to be a good fit for your organization, check on the wellness of the student and address any concerns you may have. Regular monitoring will follow.
