This Edutopia article by Emelina Minero (Twitter) describes eight virtual teaching strategies. I've summarized them below:
Spider-Web Discussion - creating a paper-tracking version of a class discussion
Use Chat/Response tools to check for understanding
Flip the classroom: post lessons asynchronously, then activity-based synchronous learning
Using GoogleDoc/Slides for collaborative think-pair-share
Think (prompt) -Write (on Docs/Slides) -Share and Comment
Online Forums and virtual collaboration boards (Jamboard, Padlet)
Virtual Gallery Walks (Docs/Slides)
Moving Station Brainstorming (similar to Thinking Classroom)
This Virtual Field Trip of Toronto includes an informative and engaging video created by the Brightspark Travel. The 9-minute video offers high-interest visuals and facts about the city's history and landmarks. The associated slides will help the students extract information from the video and also connect to a variety of curriculum expectations for Grade 6-8.
You can download your own copy of the slides here.
