It is an understatement to say that this school year has been challenging. We are the first teachers to tackle a challenge like the one we’re facing now, but we have demonstrated an ability to be flexible, resilient and adaptable. For many of us, we have worked in isolation; meeting with our students virtually, with little or no collaboration with our peers or administration. During this pandemic it is more important than ever before to come together and share our strengths. It is with this idea in mind that we launch the Intermediate Math Afterschool Club.
To offer a collaborative and supportive environment for teachers to share lessons that meet the new Ontario 2020 Math Curriculum, investigate pedagogical tools and practices, and connect with other teachers from the same division.
We are listening to the needs that have been expressed to us regarding resources and lessons. Some of the topics include:
Supporting teacher community
Reviewing available resources (we are listening to you!)
Sharing specific lesson ideas that cover different strands
Using online programs to teach coding and financial literacy
Implementing Google tools effectively in mathematics (Sheets, Slides, Forms, Sites)
Refining assessment practices
Welcoming guest speakers
Connecting through social and fellowship activities
Other topics are welcome!
