Check out our new YouTube video suggestions! Also, remember the KLP Google Classroom for some links to other fun activities/books.
We have spoken with many parents and realize that you may only have time to complete a brief activity with your child. If you only have 2 minutes to spare, please consider trying the following:
Work on helping your child to understand the question where. Use the word where as much as you can today. For example, "Where do you want to eat breakfast today? At the table? Or, in front of the TV?" or "Where would you like to walk to today? We can go straight ahead or turn here." Try to read a book or watch TV with your child. Ask your child, "Where are they going?" or "Where are they? Is that the ocean or a lake?"
Our word this week is YES! "Yes" is a word that we use to answer questions.
Cut three small pieces of paper and print 1 letter on each piece of paper (y/e/s). Or use magnetic letters if you have them.
Scramble up the letters and ask your child to move them around so that they spell the word "yes".
As you sing along, make sure to answer "yes" or "no". After singing the song, see if you and your child can generate some crazy food combinations. Some favourite (or least favourite) of ours have been apple pizza and cotton candy hotdogs. The sillier the better!
Practice asking and answering questions. This is an activity the whole family can do together!
Try all of these different foods: bread, cucumbers, apples, cheese, eggs, cereal, yogurt, carrots, cookies and bananas. Take a little bite and chew it. Do you like it?
After you have tried all of the food, take turns doing this survey with each other. Put a check mark in the "Yes" box, or an X in the "No" box. When you answer, make sure you use a whole sentence:
Yes, I like _____.
No, I don't like _____.
Watch this super fun video with your child. See if they can answer the question, "Where is the monkey?" They may need your help at times. And, sometimes, there might be more than one correct response (e.g., for "Over the desk," we at first answered, "Hanging on the shelf.")
When you are done, play a game with your child using one of their stuffies. Take turns hiding and finding the stuffy. Make sure to ask, "Where is the stuffy?" Encourage your child to answer using a long sentence and the correct location word.
Learn about questions by looking at this KLP book together. When you watch this video, the pages will turn all by themselves.
