Check out our new YouTube video suggestions! Also, remember the KLP Google Classroom for some links to other fun activities/books.
If you only have 2 minutes to spare, please consider trying the following:
Talk to your child about where we live. Tell them how we live on a planet called Earth. Earth is in the solar system. Earth has many different countries. Our country is called Canada. Canada has some provinces (and territories). Our province is called Ontario. Ontario has cities. Our city is called Toronto. We live in Toronto. Talk to your child about your street address. Teach them their apartment number and street address. This is an important life skill for them to know! Tell them, "Now you know where we live!"
Our word this week is "God." Help your child to sound out "God."
Write each of the letters (G-o-d) on pieces of paper. If you have magnetic letters or playdough, you can use those instead.
Talk about the name of each letter and the sound each letter makes (G = /g/, o = "aw", d = /d/).
Help your child to slowly put the letters together while saying the sounds, until they have sounded out the word "God."
Who is God? God is our Creator. A Creator is someone who makes (or creates) things. God created us! And the Earth. And outer space too!
How do you enjoy God's creation?
How can we protect God's creation? What can you do?
Help your child to draw out the Creation story. This activity works on sequencing skills, ordinal numbers, and the new word "create".
1) Take a blank piece of paper and help your child to trace 6 circles on it. Your child can use a pop can or overturned mug to trace circles.
2) Have your child number each of the circles (from 1-6).
3) Help your child to remember what God did on each day to create the world. They can draw that in each corresponding circle or use any materials around your house.
4) Record your child telling the Creation story. Send the recording/upload the recording into the Google classroom (if you like) for feedback. (If you don't have any paper at home, your child can look at the pictures we have attached and use those to tell the story.)
*please note, we have made the "last" day the day God created humans and animals.
Here is an example of what your child might say. Your child can use their own words. If you speak a different language at home, your child can use their home language for this activity.
First, God made day and night.
Second, He made the sky.
Third, He made seas, land, plants, and trees.
Fourth, God created the sun, moon, and stars.
Fifth, He made all the fish and flying animals, like birds.
Sixth, He made people and animals that live on land.
Watch the videos and sing along. Learn about the Solar System and planets too.
If you are looking for something extra to do, encourage your child to use playdough or Lego to make one of the planets. If they prefer, they can make anything in God's creation. Then, have your child use their words to tell you about what they made. You could even ask your child to tell you how they made it. If your child's sentences are short, you can model back to them a longer sentence. For example, if you ask your child, "How did you make your Earth?" and your child says, "Green and blue," you would model back, "Oh yes! I see that first you rolled some blue playdough into a ball and then you put green parts on top."
