Check out our new YouTube video suggestions! Also, remember the KLP Google Classroom for some links to other fun activities/books.
If you only have 2 minutes to spare, please consider trying the following:
Congratulate your child for all their hard work! They did it! They graduated the KLP!
Talk to your child about what graduate means. Graduate means you finish a grade and you are all done! You get to move on to the next grade. Grade One, here they come! Yay!
Talk to your child about what congratulations means. Congratulations is something you say to someone when they do a good job.
Talk to your child about what celebrate means. Celebrate means having a party, feeling happy, doing fun things.
Working on oral language goals is hard work. Your child has worked hard at following directions, learning new vocabulary, speaking in longer sentences, speaking in a louder voice/sticking up for themselves, learning how to listen to the teacher and to others, learning how to think before speaking, and telling stories (to name a few!). If you can, have a little celebration. Maybe your child can pick a special dessert tonight or maybe you can turn on YouTube and have a dance party. Let your child choose what they would like to do to celebrate. Congratulations!
Watch the Freeze Dance song, play along. This song is a LOT of fun. Plus, following directions, anyone? Yes, please! You're child gets to dance and target one of their goals.
It's been a fun year in the KLP. We've done science experiments, baked, learned lots of new words, listened to stories, explored the outdoors, and learned all about letters and sounds just to name a few! Let's look back on our year and talk about all the fun activities we did and the fun friends you met!
Print our KLP book found below or make your own using our book as a guide. Ask your child WH-questions (who, what, where, when, why) to help them talk about their KLP memories before having them draw a corresponding picture. For example:
1) "My KLP teachers are...."
Who are your KLP teachers? (Mrs. McGouran and Mrs. Whillier)
What do they look like? How many teachers do you have?
2) "My KLP friends are..."
What are your friends' names? Why do you like playing with (student name)?
3) "My favourite KLP story is ..."
This we read a lot of books including The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Three Little Pigs.
What was your favourite part of the story? Who was your favourite character? Why? Where did the story happen?
4) "My favourite playtime activity is..."
Where did you like playing? Why do you like playing at the (kitchen centre)?
Well done, KLP Friends! You did it! You GRADUATED the KLP!
I hope you enjoy this story called "My Heart Fills With Happiness" by Monique Gray Smith.
