WHAT IS YOUNG AUTHORS?
Every year for Young Authors our elementary students embark on an artistic and literary journey where they showcase their writing knowledge and present delightful creations of writing, from descriptive works to opinion pieces. Youth Authors is an event that exhibits students’ raw talent along with their academic growth and unwavering dedication through their written and visual works produced in the span of two trimesters.
COLLABORATION WITH THE RESEARCH & WRITING LAB
The Research and Writing Lab has collaborated with the CITL Library and our Elementary teachers to organize interactive and personalized writing sessions for our 4th & 5th graders. This year our students were guided through the steps involved in writing historical fiction as well as poetry. The Research and Writing Lab Specialist, Mr. Kris, discussed literary elements like plot, suspense, and characterization with the 4th graders, and he went over poetic features such as rhyme, similes, apostrophes, and stanzas with the 5th graders. We're so proud of our students and their wonderfully written works!
YOUNG AUTHORS 2024-2025
Last year Mr. Kris reviewed the guidelines for different areas of grammar (such as capitalization, end punctuation, and commas) with our 3rd & 5th graders. After each session, students had the opportunity to consult Mr. Kris in order to improve their Young Authors pieces. Many also took the initiative to revise their works based on what they had learned.
Their efforts and excitement anticipate the moment when they can present their masterpieces to their loved ones to conclude another successful Youth Authors celebration.
